Joint TED Talk-style session highlights how cloud-native ediscovery and AI enabled hundreds of pro bono lawyers to uncover systemic bias in capital jury selection

LONDON and AUSTIN, Texas – DISCO (NYSE: LAW), a creator of industry-leading litigation technology, announced its participation at Legal Geek 2026, taking place 14–15 October in London. Alongside exhibiting at the event, DISCO will join UK charity and pro bono client Amicus ALJ on stage for a TED Talk-style presentation, “Amicus and DISCO: Uncovering Systemic Bias at Scale with AI,” at 9:30am on 14 October.

Legal Geek is a global community and annual event focused on technology, legal operations, and innovation in the legal sector. Presented by Tripp Hemphill, Global VP, Enterprise Markets at DISCO, and Margot Ravenscroft, Executive Director of Amicus ALJ, the joint session will explore how technology can serve as essential infrastructure for human rights work. Amicus, which helps represent vulnerable individuals facing the death penalty in the United States, has partnered with DISCO since 2021.

“Legal technology can have profound social impact when it helps people pursue fairness at scale. Our partnership with Amicus shows what becomes possible when AI and committed pro bono lawyers work together, and we hope it encourages others in the legal sector to put their technology and capacity to work for systemic change,” said Tripp Hemphill, Global VP, Enterprise Markets, DISCO.

The talk centers on an anonymized case study, State v. AB, brought under a first-of-its-kind Racial Justice Act in a key U.S. state. Supporting the case required a systematic review of transcripts from nearly 200 capital cases spanning decades. Amicus mobilized hundreds of pro bono lawyers from dozens of leading global law firms on DISCO’s platform to enable AI review at scale. The analysis showed prosecutors excluded qualified black citizens from capital juries at more than twice the rate of white citizens, and a judge subsequently issued a historic ruling finding racial discrimination in jury selection. The precedent ultimately provided guidance for more than 100 other individuals on death row with pending Racial Justice Act claims.

“Access to high-quality ediscovery software would normally be beyond the financial reach of our charity,” said Margot Ravenscroft, Executive Director, Amicus ALJ. “DISCO has enabled us to manage massive disclosures and overwhelming volumes of data efficiently and securely. The work has had a tangible, life-changing effect on the justice system and simply wouldn’t get done to such a high standard without them.”

Amicus and DISCO were named Legal Geek Leaders in Tech Law Awards finalists in the “Technology for Good” category, with the judging committee recognizing how the partnership uncovered systemic racism and secured a historic legal precedent. Winners will be announced on-site during the conference.

Attendees can visit DISCO at booth #2 in the exhibit area throughout the Legal Geek conference.
