5 New Ways DISCO Ediscovery Makes Life Easier for Legal Teams

Back to Blog Posts

At DISCO, we’re always working to make your life easier when you’re using one of our products. Here are five examples of new designs, functionality, and optimizations DISCO Ediscovery has released in the last few months to provide better ease of use and enjoyment for our users.

Apply work product efficiently, with all the context you need

The ability to customize your tools for entering work product is one of those little things that make working with evidence that much easier. It can also provide the ability to present the context you need in your review — from privilege notes indicating what to redact to which folders might need to be updated for productions or witness prep.

The new updates to the DISCO Ediscovery viewer work-product panels allow users to make these customizations. The new independently expandable or collapsable panels allow you to auto-save privilege and document notes, refer to notes while applying redactions or foldering documents, and search for folders with a new "Find" capability.

Importantly, once you’ve decided what panels you want open while working, the system retains those settings between documents.

Updated work-product panels expose what you need to work with and let you hide what you don’t while adding a “find” feature to quickly locate folders.

New search filter options

Building on our user-friendly filters, we’ve expanded the types of information you can use to interrogate your documents. Users can now explore the details of their ingest and data processing efforts or locate documents with redactions that may need further analysis or quality control without knowing or using DISCO’s search syntax.

Rapidly search and use document counts to assess ingest and processing outcomes or identify your team's redactions to documents and metadata.

Enhancements to search builder

We understand that all people don’t process information the same way and may not prefer to use rigid or overly complicated search tools to find the documents they care about. That’s why DISCO Ediscovery provides multiple search modalities to get you to the documents you care about, without having to clutter the document list with unnecessary columns or memorize a search syntax.

To ensure users can get the most out of our various search methodologies, we’re continually updating the types of searchable information and how users can work with that data. In a recent release, we’ve enhanced our search builder tool, optimizing the fields users can plug into a search and adding new searchable fields. Users can now construct searches using a document’s primary language, privilege note contents, or in which review stages the document was actually viewed, tagged, and marked as "reviewed and next" to locate records.

Search faster with new search builder fields: search by language, privilege, and review stage.

New metrics to track productivity in review stages

DISCO Ediscovery’s review stages already provided users the ability to take advantage of time savings and quality-of-life benefits: prioritized reviews with DISCO AI, just-in-time batching, a reduction in the administrative burden of running a review, and metrics to help understand tagging behavior and help predict review completion.

We recently added new metrics to these already robust tools: active hours and reviewer pace. These new metrics expose how many documents an individual reviewer completed in how many hours, giving teams a way to evaluate the docs/hour for each reviewer assigned to a particular stage.

New metrics added to the exportable metrics page allows tracking of the active hours and overall productivity of reviewers by review stage.

By exposing these new metrics, review managers, managing attorneys, or corporate clients can track reviewer productivity. It also enables them to assess reviewer performance or take corrective action more effectively if a reviewer is reviewing either too slowly or too quickly.

Data management suite (DMS) optimization

At DISCO, we always want to eke out those additional few seconds to reduce the time it takes to go from data on a computer to workable data in DISCO Ediscovery. In the last few months, we’ve made a number of improvements to DMS to process more data faster during ingest through streamlined operations and optimizations.

For example, the processing and handoff between transfer completing and ingest starting have been optimized to run up to 200x faster and changes to our processing engine make the processing of Excel and other spreadsheets more efficient.
