Size and Scope of Litigation Demanded Enterprise-Grade Discovery Solution

HOUSTON — Aug. 7, 2018 — Cloud discovery leader DISCO is working with Motley Rice LLC, one of the nation’s largest plaintiffs’ litigation firms, and Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley, P.C., for three large areas of product liability litigation focused on hernia mesh products.

Attorneys from the two firms serve as lead or co-lead counsel, liaison counsel, and members of the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee for three separate hernia mesh product liability cases – databases range in size from 500 GBs to 3 TBs, with additional data being added regularly. To address the extensive discovery challenges in each of these cases, the Plaintiff Steering Committee selected DISCO to provide products and services for these multi-terabyte, multi-party and multi-year engagements.

“The ability to quickly and thoroughly review millions of documents to easily identify what’s of value to our clients was a critical factor in selecting DISCO as our discovery solution for this litigation,” said Jonathan D. Orent, member, Motley Rice. “DISCO understands the unique challenges plaintiffs face, particularly in asymmetrical discovery.”

“With cases this large and complex, we need our discovery service provider to be a true extension of our team. DISCO meets and exceeds this challenge,” said Josh Wages, shareholder, Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley. “With DISCO we not only get great technology, but also the professional services to find what we need in the defendant's production.”

DISCO delivers advanced analytics and robust review management tools to manage large and complex reviews while maintaining speed, ease-of-use, and performance. Further, because DISCO does not charge per-user fees, steering committee members from various firms can review documents as they want and need to without needing to limit access to the database due to cost-per-user concerns.

“Many discovery products fall short when tasked with large and complex cases, both in terms of functionality as well as prohibitive costs. DISCO is the exception,” said Andrew Shimek, DISCO chief revenue officer. “Firms such as Motley Rice are finding that when it comes to the largest and most detailed discovery challenges, DISCO’s speed and functionality empowers them to build strong cases to benefit their clients.”
